Bedrooms can be a great place for relaxing, playing, and sleeping. But they don’t have to be large or fancy. Rather, they can use bright colors and creative home design to create a space that is a pleasure to spend time in. A small bedroom can also be used for reading, a work area, or just a place to relax.

To make the most of a small bedroom, it’s important to create a focal point and thoughtful decor. This includes using reflective wall art to add some life to the room. Adding a colorful rug or new furniture can also help to improve the overall look of the space. You can also consider purchasing a luxurious rug or replacing old carpets.

If you’re planning to add a bedroom, be sure to pull a building permit. The cost can be a couple hundred dollars upfront, but it can save you thousands of dollars later. By having a permit, you’ll know that your addition is built to the proper standards and can be safely exited.

The standard bedroom size is around 70 to 80 square feet, but some cities have additional restrictions. For example, some towns require that a room meet 50 square feet per person. Even if you’re going to share your bedroom with a partner, you should still check to see if your home meets the International Residential Code’s requirements for the size of the room.

It’s not necessary to have a closet in your bedroom, but if you do, you’ll need to plan accordingly. Depending on the size of the room, it may not be possible to install a walk-in closet. However, if you have the space, it can be a useful place for storage.

Bedrooms should be accessible from a common point in the house, such as a hallway or living room. They should also meet specific requirements, including ceiling height, doorways, windows, and egress routes.
